This Kikapu basket is handcrafted using traditional techniques by skilled rural artisans in the coast of Kenya. The materials used are locally sourced reeds, beads, kikoi and leather. The leather is sustainably sourced from tanneries in Kenya while the decorations, authentic African designs are handcrafted with care in colorful beads and kikoi; a woven cloth that originates from the east coast of Africa.
The decorations of this apple-shaped bag, a heritage of the coastal people, include; a buckle intricately beaded as the map of Africa, beaded handles and blue kikoi sewn onto the bag. It has a cotton lining and a drawstring closure.
