At Crafts with Meaning, we believe that access to opportunity should not be determined by a lack of formal education, skills training or work experience.
CarryHER is our six-month, paid, on-the-job apprenticeship programme, designed to equip unskilled and semi-skilled youth from underserved communities with practical, marketable skills and real work experience, creating pathways into meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.
Participants learn within a real manufacturing environment, working alongside experienced production teams and artisans.
Through hands-on training and mentorship, they develop skills in areas such as tailoring, leatherwork, textile recycling and product manufacturing, while also gaining exposure to quality standards, workplace practices and entrepreneurship.
The programme is designed to build not only technical capability, but also the confidence, discipline and practical experience needed to earn and grow through their skills.
CarryHER runs for six months, with apprentices recruited twice a year through a competitive selection process that combines outreach through our community networks with open calls on our platforms. This helps us reach young people who may otherwise have limited access to formal training and employment opportunities.
At its core, CarryHER is about more than skills development, It is about creating practical pathways into Kenya’s manufacturing and creative economy, expanding economic opportunity and building a pipeline of skilled workers and entrepreneurs, particularly among disadvantaged young women.
