Fifie’s Crafts

Location: Buddo, Uganda

An incredible team of twenty two women form a group called Fifie’s Crafts. Based in Buddo, Masaka-Kampala Road, Uganda, they make intricate crafts out of raffia and banana riddles. Their array of products include wall decor and mats, baskets and tidies, coasters and placemats. Fifie’s Crafts was established in 17/11/2017 by Fiona, a lover of handmade crafts from her home. With a skill in crafts making, she started weaving as a hobby and her products garnered interest when she posted them on Facebook. Eventually, orders for her baskets and wall decor flowed in.

Months later in 2018 with increased demand for products and constant inquiries on training, she brought on board three girls, one aged 21 and two aged 27 to train and weave at first. Along the way, the workforce increased to now twenty two women with a wide age group of 22 to 50 years, all going through various life’s challenges affecting rural African women. With this increased production capacity the group produces products of multiple functions in traditional African geometric patterns, swirls and vibrant colors. The sale of these products provide the women with sustainable income for themselves and their dependants.
